St. Bernadette Newswire: Kindergarten First Rider Program

Time to Sign up for the Kindergarten First Rider Program!

If your child is starting Kindergarten in September and is eligible for transportation, join Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region (STSWR) on June 5, 2019.

The First Rider Program introduces new riders to the school bus and teaches them how to be a safe and responsible rider. Families will learn how to board, ride, and get off the bus safely and become familiar with transportation procedures for Junior and Senior Kindergarten students.

St. Bernadette Newswire: Week At A Glance May 20th to 24th

Good Evening BEARS Families and Friends;
We hope you had a fantastic long weekend!  This week will begin EQAO testing involving our Grade 3 students.  We hope our students are well prepared to write the spring EQAO assessments in reading, writing and mathematics and are able to demonstrate their learning in this form as well as they do during regular classroom assessments.  We wish them the best.

This Wednesday, students in Grades 4 to 8 will be at St. David Catholic Secondary School for our elementary school track and field meet.  The track meet runs from 9:30 a.m. until approximately 2:00 p.m.  We will be travelling to the high school by bus leaving after morning announcements.  Students will also be transported back to school later in the day unless arrangements have been made.  Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.  There is no rain date available for this venue.  We will make every effort to attend the event unless there is an extreme weather condition alert.  If there is an announcement, it will be made via newswire early in the morning.  A bag lunch is recommended with lots of water, sunscreen and an umbrella for shade or rain are key items to pack for the day.  Pizza orders on line will be honoured on this day.

We would like to congratulate our Grade 7 students who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this Friday.  Please continue to pray for our students.

Transportation Survey For Students and Parents

We are asking parents and/or guardians to participate in a survey about their student’s journey to school. The purpose of the surveys is to get a better understanding of the thoughts and opinions of the student’s journey to school. We have created surveys for students using the school bus and for students who use other forms of transportation like walking or biking to school. Our goal is to enhance the student’s experience and to improve our services in the future. The survey typically takes 5 minutes to complete and will be open until Friday, June 14th, 2019.

If you have any questions in regards to the surveys please contact the Morgan Potts at (519) 744-7575, extension 229 or at morgan_potts@stswr.ca.

Thank you for providing your feedback. We appreciate the time you have taken and will actively use it to improve our services to you in the future!

News From St. Joseph Parish

Dear parents and families,

We are so close! First Communion is in only two days, this Sunday April 28.

Last minute reminders:

If you would like to have an individual, professional photograph taken by Lifetouch, you need to arrive by 9 am. Bring your package with you if you got one from church or through St Bernadette. I have enough extras for those who did not get one through St Bernadette.

If you do not want an individual photo by Lifetouch, please arrive by 9:30. The group picture will be taken at 9:45, but everyone needs to be at church by 9:30. If you want to purchase a picture, please bring your order form.

One half pew at the front of the church will be reserved for you, just like it was at the rehearsal. If you have more family coming than will fit into the pew, please encourage them to arrive early to get the seats they want.

Kindly remember (and remind relatives) that in the Diocese of Hamilton no photos should be taken during Mass. You are very welcome to take pictures before and after Mass, but not during. We want all to be able to concentrate on the prayer and sacrament of the Mass.

Gloves, prayer books, rosaries or other items may be worn or held for pictures, but should be taken off and put away for all of Mass.

Our parish (and especially our First Communion team) is praying for you and for your children. Lori, Lisa, Father Brian and I are excited to be there with you as they come to the table of our Lord for the first time – and I’m sure Father Tom is praying from Cincinnati!

See you VERY soon,

Mary Forcier

Youth Minister

Lockdown Drill at St. Bernadette Catholic School

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Today at 9:30 a.m., the St. Bernadette Community held a mandatory lockdown drill.  A minimum of two lockdown drills must occur each school year in every school.   In case of an emergency, we may need to place our school in a lockdown – this can be a result of a variety of issues.  The staff and students at St. Bernadette did a fantastic job of following all safety protocols.

Please discuss this drill with your children this evening and if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the main office.

Thanks again to all the staff and students who were quick to enact all of our safety protocol.
