Weekly Update April 16th to 20th

Greeting Bears Families and Friends:

In recognition of National Volunteer Week, we want to acknowledge the work of our volunteers at St. Bernadette and say THANK YOU!  Like the pebble thrown in the water, a volunteer’s gift of time and caring is symbolized by a stone thrown in a lake: its effect has a direct impact.  At the same time, like ripples, our volunteers efforts reach out far and wide to embrace and improve our school community.  Undeniably, our St. Bernadette volunteers rock!!!  Thank you for all you do and continue to do.  We hope to see you at our Volunteer Breakfast on Wednesday.

We welcome Mr. Patrick Power who will be assuming ESL teaching duties for the remainder of the school year.  Later this week we say good-bye to our Wilfrid Laurier Student Teacher Mr. Granat.  We thank him for all he has done for our school and wish him the best.

Due to current weather conditions all schools including St. Bernadette and all school buses, taxis and special education routes are cancelled today.  All extended day childcare programs are also closed today.

Special Jersey Day April 12

Message from Director of Education, Loretta Notten…

As many of you are already aware, Canadians from coast, to coast to coast will join together on Thursday, April 12th for a special “Jersey Day” to honour the victims of last Friday’s tragedy involving the Humboldt Saskatchewan Broncos hockey team.

We have flown our flags at half-mast yesterday and today as a sign of solidarity with the victims and their families. We now invite all students and staff to offer a further sign of support by wearing a sports jersey to school (or to your board admin facility) on Thursday. We further encourage you to share your photos on social media so that all affected by the tragedy will know the entire WCDSB community is thinking of them, and praying for them. You may wish to include the hashtags #humboldtstrong and #humboldtbroncos.

Weekly Update April 9th to 13th

Greeting Bears Families and Friends:

This week we welcome Ms. Ariana Dufresne who will be assuming teaching duties for the Grade 5/6 classroom.  Please keep Ms. Baillie in your prayers as we wish her a speedy recovery so she can return to St. Bernadette later in the school year.  We also ask you to please pray for Mme. LaRonde and Ms. Sousa who are currently on a leave.

We are excited to have two programs here at our school beginning this week.  At lunch we will have an art program called ArtShine.   Afterschool, we have teamed up with Wilfrid Laurier to offer a physical activity program.  Both programs are only offered to students who have registered.

Our Volunteer Breakfast is coming up soon.  Please do not miss this.

This Thursday evening,  we will be holding a parents information evening on zones of regulation.  Our school is using this to help with self-regulation.  Please come out and learn more about this important framework: St. Bernadette Zones of Regulation.  If you will be attending please return the form back to school or call the school.
