St. Bernadette Newswire: Week At A Glance April 29th to May 3rd

Good Evening BEARS Families and Friends;

Although Catholic Education Week is not until next week, activities are unfolding in our school and church already.  This morning I joined our Grade 2 students at St. Joseph Church for their Holy Communion Celebration.   I saw remarkable young people who truly understand what it means to live a life in service of others and to live in the model of Christ.  We have so very much to celebrate in our school and parish.

I look forward to some of the events that will take place next week.  We will have a Catholic Education Mass on Tuesday at St. Joseph Church.  You are welcome to attend.  In addition we will have our annual St. Bernadette Book Fair.  Please note the book fair will only be available for two days this year.  Tuesday evening, we have an exciting event for families to partake involving technology Stemotics Family Night.  I look forward in seeing you attend these and other events in the week.

News From St. Joseph Parish

Dear parents and families,

We are so close! First Communion is in only two days, this Sunday April 28.

Last minute reminders:

If you would like to have an individual, professional photograph taken by Lifetouch, you need to arrive by 9 am. Bring your package with you if you got one from church or through St Bernadette. I have enough extras for those who did not get one through St Bernadette.

If you do not want an individual photo by Lifetouch, please arrive by 9:30. The group picture will be taken at 9:45, but everyone needs to be at church by 9:30. If you want to purchase a picture, please bring your order form.

One half pew at the front of the church will be reserved for you, just like it was at the rehearsal. If you have more family coming than will fit into the pew, please encourage them to arrive early to get the seats they want.

Kindly remember (and remind relatives) that in the Diocese of Hamilton no photos should be taken during Mass. You are very welcome to take pictures before and after Mass, but not during. We want all to be able to concentrate on the prayer and sacrament of the Mass.

Gloves, prayer books, rosaries or other items may be worn or held for pictures, but should be taken off and put away for all of Mass.

Our parish (and especially our First Communion team) is praying for you and for your children. Lori, Lisa, Father Brian and I are excited to be there with you as they come to the table of our Lord for the first time – and I’m sure Father Tom is praying from Cincinnati!

See you VERY soon,

Mary Forcier

Youth Minister

Lockdown Drill at St. Bernadette Catholic School

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Today at 9:30 a.m., the St. Bernadette Community held a mandatory lockdown drill.  A minimum of two lockdown drills must occur each school year in every school.   In case of an emergency, we may need to place our school in a lockdown – this can be a result of a variety of issues.  The staff and students at St. Bernadette did a fantastic job of following all safety protocols.

Please discuss this drill with your children this evening and if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the main office.

Thanks again to all the staff and students who were quick to enact all of our safety protocol.

Good Evening BEARS Families and Friends

We have finally reached Holy Week!  Please use the following link to find information about the Mass times during Holy Week at St. Joseph Parish https://www.stjosephkitchener.org/index.html

Take some time this week to continue to explore your personal relationship with God.  At St. Bernadette, we have been doing this each day through the process of prayer.  First thing in the morning, the entire school participates in a prayer that allows is to calm our minds and focus on the message that God is trying to deliver to us in our hearts and our minds.  Too often we are too busy and too caught up in the fast-paced lives that we lead, to really stop and listen to the voice of God within us.  This is the season of rebirth and certainly the world is “charged with the Grandeur of God”.  May the Easter Season bring you joy, and may you find strength in being true people of Love, Hope and Faith. Wishing you the blessings of the Easter Season – may your minds be free of worry and your hearts full with hope!

St. Bernadette Newswire: Week At A Glance April 8th to 12th

Good Evening BEARS Families and Friends,
We would like to thank our fantastic school community for a successful dance-a-thon.  The outpouring of prizes and support was truly amazing.  If you have not handed in your pledge sheet and money, do so as soon as possible.  Wednesday afternoon we will be drawing names for the prizes.  A special thank you goes out to school council members including Lisa McKay, Christine Rito and Michele Reuber for coordinating the event. Well done ladies!

This week our social justice club will begin Personal Items Drive as part of our Lenten initiative.  Please support by bringing in unopened full or travel size personal hygiene items.  All items will be given to Mill-Courtland Centre.

In recognition of National Volunteer Week, the staff and students from St. Bernadette would like to acknowledge the work of our volunteers , and say “Thank you!”  Like the pebble thrown in the still lake, ripples arise and begin to spread, the gift of time, caring and consideration have both a direct effect on our students as well as a lasting effect for  long time to come.  Undeniably, the many volunteers at St. Bernadette Catholic School are the best! Many thanks to all those who have been a valuable volunteer.
