St. Bernadette Newswire: Message From St. Joseph Church

A Message from St Joseph Church

Dear families,
We pray that your time off for March Break was a time of joyful renewal.
As we continue our Lenten Observance and prepare for Easter, you are all in our prayers. There are many things going on at St Joseph during Lent – take a look!

St John’s Bible
The St John Bible is the first fully hand lettered and illustrated Bible in nearly 500 years. On March 30, join us for a youth workshop to view a life-sized reproduction of the Bible, see the tools used to create it, and try your hand at creating a page. Saturday, March 30 from 2-3:30 pm in the Parish Hall.

THINKfast for Development and Peace
This year St Joseph and St Anne youth will be holding a THINKfast at St Joseph Church – a 25 hour fast which is used as an opportunity to raise funds for those in need, and to educate ourselves on global issues around poverty and food shortages. Our THINKfast will run from 5 pm on Friday, April 5 until 7:30 pm on Saturday April 6.

Young people in grades 6-12 have the option of staying overnight for the full 25 hour fast, with only a small breakfast in the morning. For our younger friends (in grades 1-5), we’re offering a “mini-fast” on Saturday. Everyone is invited to join us from 2:00 pm until 7:30 pm.  Unlike most of our meetings, there will not be a snack. We will fast from 2 until 6:30 in a small show of solidarity and compassion for those who go without food regularly.

Everyone will attend 5:00 Mass together, and then we will have dinner downstairs in the Hall, concluding at 7:30 pm.   THINKfast is full of games, prayers, and activities to help us learn about issues of poverty and hunger around the world, and to raise awareness of the causes Development and Peace focus on.

More information (including permission forms) for THINKfast and our other upcoming youth events is available at the following links:

Lent at St Joseph
Stations of the Cross
Everyone is invited to come and pray the Stations of the Cross Friday nights at 7 pm. This Friday, March 22, the Stations will be led by the youth of our parish.

 Book of Luke Gospel Study
Father Brian is facilitating this study for parishioners of St. Joseph and St. Anne Parishes, and it will be held downstairs in St. Anne Parish Hall. There will be no homework, no tests, no registration, no fee, no commitment. You can participate as much or as little as you want to. It will be relaxing and hopefully add to your Lenten renewal. We will finish no later than 8:30 pm. with a 15-minute halfway break.

Reconciliation
Lent is a time that calls us to prayer, and to look honestly at our lives. If you are interested in receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation (even if it’s been a while!) You are invited to attend one of multiple celebrations being held in the Kitchener area. At St Joseph, multiple priests will be available to hear confessions during our Reconciliation service at 7 pm on Thursday April 4.

Holy Week Schedule
For those looking ahead, is our schedule of Masses and Liturgies for Holy Week. We hope to see you there as we celebrate Jesus’ death and resurrection.

April 18 Holy Thursday: Mass with Incense at 7 pm

April 19 Good Friday: Liturgy at 3 pm

April 20 Easter Vigil: Mass with incense at 8 pm

April 21 Easter Sunday: Mass at 10 am
