Weekly Update February 28th – March 2nd

Greetings Bears Families and Friends;

We continue the first part of Lent, during which we learn is a time to acknowledge the ways in which we get distracted and turned away from God – and a time to deliberately turn back to focus on God’s desire for our lives.  The traditional Lenten disciplines of fasting, prayer, study, and almsgiving are all ways to help us do this work.

Our Carizon Support Worker will be offering the next presentation on March 7th. The topic will be on “Get A Jump on March Break Planning – Activities and Ideas.” Please contact the school if you are interested in attending. Coffee Connections St. Bernadette Feb 7th and Mar. 7th .2018.

Weekly Update February 19th to 23rd

Greetings Bears Families and Friends;

As we enter Lent, we are reminded of our baptismal and penitential practices.  Lent is a privileged time for prayer, fasting and almsgiving.  This season provides an opportunity to renew and deepen our relationship with Jesus, and to renew the choices we make, so that we might live as Jesus taught. Pope Francis’ message for Lent …..

Lent summons us,
and enables us,
to come back to the Lord
wholeheartedly
and in every aspect of our life.

Our winter carnival was a great success.  We can be really proud of our students and in particular our intermediate students who were wonderful leaders and mentors.  We would like to acknowledge and thank our school council for the hot chocolate and treats.  Speaking about our school council, the show of support and encouragement was amazing for our Shrove Tuesday breakfast.  We are truly blessed to have so many friends and parents willing to support our school.  THANK YOU!

Our Carizon Support Worker will be offering the next presentation on March 7th. The topic will be on “Get A Jump on March Break Planning – Activities and Ideas.” Please contact the school if you are interested in attending. Coffee Connections St. Bernadette Feb 7th and Mar. 7th .2018.

Waterloo Region Special Needs Strategy Planning Table is pleased to announce the launch of Family Compass Waterloo Region , a new go-to site for all services for children and youth in Waterloo Region that features an easy-to-use online tool to direct parents and youth to their best starting point based on their concerns. The online tool’s survey is confidential and users can save their customized results for later, or submit them to the appropriate starting point organization immediately. Once submitted, the starting point organization will then follow up to discuss the concerns identified, put wheels in motion to move to assessment (if desired/ warranted) and/or warm transfer to other organizations that may be beneficial (if desired/ warranted).  A great support for families in our community!

Weekly Update February 12th to 16th

Good evening,

For the first time since 1945, Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day fall on the same day.  Ash Wednesday, as the first day of Lent, always take precedence over any other memorial for that day.  Our school will hold our Valentine’s celebrations on Tuesday, February 13th instead, in anticipation of the feast day of St. Valentine.  This year, February 13th is Shrove Tuesday, which is often a day of celebration in our school.

Our school council will be providing pancakes to all students on Shrove Tuesday.  The success of this event is dependent on the number of volunteers who can come in and make, serve the pancakes.  We would like to thank Melanie Bonaventura and Tanya O’Toole who have been busy organizing the event.  We also would like to thank the volunteers who will be joining us this Tuesday.

We will be entering the season of Lent on Wednesday.  Lent is a special time for prayer and repentance in the lives of Christians.  It is an intensive time for everyone on the journey of faith.  Lent can be a time of increased listening; to the Word of God, to the stirrings of our own hearts, to the sounds of our daily relationships.  The distributions of ashes will take place in our school gymnasium during the 9:30 a.m. Ash Wednesday para-liturgy.

This month reminds us of the need to keep the spirit of love in all that we think, do and say.  February also marks Black History Month.  Through special announcements St. Bernadette will use this month as an opportunity to heighten awareness on diversity issues.

To support our Winter Olympics Team, students are encouraged to wear Winter Sports, Olympic or Canada gear/clothing for the next two weeks.  Go Canada Go!

Our online Spirit Wear Store featuring our new name “Bears” will be open until next Sunday.  Please visit https://stbernadettecesspiritwear18.itemorder.com/ and order your new spirit wear.

Our Carizon Support Worker will be offering the first of two presentations this Wednesday.  The topic will be on Parenting An Anxious Child: Tips and Strategies.  For more information please view the following link and contact the school.  Coffee Connections St. Bernadette Feb 7th and Mar. 7th .2018.

We are accepting appointments for JK Registration Flyer.  Please contact the school for more information.
